How to persist a single string for an Electron app with minimal dependencies?

I'm trying to keep my npm dependency count to an absolute minimum, and I have a simple need for my application: to reliably persist a single string between sessions.

This string will most likely be generated within 5 minutes of first using the application and rarely changed (perhaps never), but will need to be read into memory on each application startup.

This question is similar but seems overkill for my purposes.

The three options seem to be:

  1. An embedded database (mini MongoDB)
  2. electron-json-storage module
  3. electron-store module

Unfortunately, these all have a long chain of dependencies.

Is it possible to have simple cross-platform storage with leveraging just the node and electron core API?
