Create symlink of every file in a folder three
I need a Bash script that will create a symlink for every
*.mp3file in folder X (and its subfolders), and store those symlinks in folder Y, without subfolders and probably skipping duplicates.
For the curious, this is to automate a radio station using Libretime.
And sorry if this is a dumb question, I never used a Bash script.
xmlstarlet unable to read file location variable
I have run into a strange issue with the xmlstarlet utility Whenever I run
xmlstarlet sel -t -v '//email' demofilename.xml
It returns the all the emails found within the file with no issues.
However When I replace the filename with a dynamic variable containing the filepath as given below, it fails.
myfilepath=/root/demofilename.xml xmlstarlet sel -t -v '//email' "$myfilepath"
It returns with the following message.
*Wherever file name mentioned in command help it is assumed that URL can be used instead as well. Type: xmlstarlet <command> --help <ENTER> for command help*
My Xml Version is given as below:- Running this on Kali linux os 2018 on bash shell 4.4 version.
xmlstarlet --version 1.6.1 compiled against libxml2 2.9.4, linked with 20904 compiled against libxslt 1.1.29, linked with 10129
Would appreciate if someone could assist me with this madness...
Backup the first argument on bash script
I wrote a script to backup the first argument that the user input with the script:
#!/bin/bash file=$1/$(date +"_%Y-%m-%d").tar.gz if [ $1 -eq 0 ] then echo "We need first argument to backup" else if [ ! -e "$file" ]; then tar -zcvf $1/$(date +"_%Y-%m-%d").tar.gz $1 else exit fi fi
The result that i want from the script is
- backup folder the first argument that user input
- save the backup file into folder that user input with date time format.
but the script is not running when I try to input the argument. What's wrong with the script?

Ubuntu installation stuck at logo splash screen?
I prepared a bootable flash disk of Ubuntu 17.10 and it was successful.
I tried installing Ubuntu on my old laptop ( HP d002tx, 4GB, i3 3rd gen) using it and it was successful without any issues. (DUAL BOOT)
but when i use the same flash disk to install Ubuntu on my new laptop ( ASUS FX553VD, 8GB, i7 7th gen) , the installation process gets stuck on Ubuntu logo in both normal installation and try without install. ( trying to DUAL BOOT, Windows 10 present, secure boot turned off)
There seems to be no problem with installation disk as it worked for the older laptop. I've even updated the BIOS of my new laptop.what can be the issue ?

HP Black Screen - Strange behaviour
This morning my laptop stopped working. When loading what appears is just a black screen. Nothing more.
The last thing I did on my pc was watching a film and I didn't download or install anything.
I tried to make sure that the screen isn't broken by plugging it to a monitor, but it still showed no response.
Afterwards I tried to enter the BIOS. By pressing ESC during loading it gives me a startup menu with multiple choices:
- System information
- System Diagnostics
- Boot Device Options
- BIOS Setup
- System Recovery
First of all, since something is appearing, this means that the screen is working (and i guess also the graphics card should be working properly).
So I think it is because something happened with the OS (could be an update, not sure, I had Windows 10).
Coming back to the menu, this is what happens:
- System information: just gives me some info on the pc
- System Diagnostics: lets me check the memory (should work but takes 20min and not sure if I would understand the output) and hard disk (which doesn't work, because it says that the software for checking isn't installed)
- Boot Device Options: enables me to select different Boot options
- BIOS Setup: tried changing some options but didn't help
- System Recovery: when launched the screen becomes black again, and after 5min a screen with HP logo (and under the text "System Repair") appears, but goes away after 30s and the screen stays black again (end result: nothing seems to have happened).
I also tried to install Windows 10 again, by booting an USB I have, and when running the HP logo appears with a circle that is loading and after some seconds of loading everything remains black again.
Overall I think it is something that can be repaired (I think somehow by installing a new OS) since we can still access the BIOS and other options (that doesn't really work), but I'm not sure how, I tried almost everything.
Does someone has some ideas?
How do I rotate text in plymouth splash screen?
Does anyone know how to rotate text images in plymouth? I want to print a message on the screen when splash is running but I would like it to be rotated. So far, it kinda rotates but only shows two letters. I understand you can't rotate sprites so you have to rotate the image. Thanks.
