dhcp client tries renewal of IP address every 2 minutes
I get this error in /var/log/syslog. I am not sure how to prevent refreshing of IP address. I always get assigned the same IP address but the problem is it does that frequently.

Wireless Connection Location
I am developing emergency notification system and running windows service to check active alerts based on logged-in user's location however when user connects with wireless then i do not know the location because I use centralized network and only wired connections have IP range but no IP range for access points. I have over 50 buildings and some of them so close to each other they may overlap wireless connections.
How to know user's building if h/she use wireless connection? or what else can i try to overcome this?

Can only send emails when using IP of SMTP host
I have this annoying issue:
- When sending an email when debugging in VS, it works fine (I'm using
After publishing to the server, I get this error:
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'mail.company.co.za'
However, if I change the smtp host to the IP address, it seems to work fine.
I got the IP by calling
ping mail.company.co.zain CMD (When calling this on the server it can't find the address, but it can ping the IP)
Since I'm not sure whether the IP is static or not, I don't know if its safe to just use the physical IP. Why would the server not recognise the
Note that I am debugging and hosting the application on the same network. This suggests to me that it is not a firewall issue, but maybe I'm wrong about that?

Validated `su` password in python accepted by user
I want to validate root password which is entered by user script which is used to install the driver which requires root. if I try to run that installer as a
superuser privilegeit gives below Error:
ERROR: installer must be run as root
I am accepting the password with the help of
getpass()method at the beginning of a script and will use that password in between the execution of it so don't want to make a user wait for such long time.
I found what-is-the-best-way-for-checking-if-the-user-of-a-script-has-root-like-privileg and how-to-verify-a-users-password-for-root-privledges-in-python but this will check validation of sudo password not the
root. I want to check password is valid for root login.
How Should I validate that
user entered the passwordis correct for
As well as My knowledge is a concern I have to check the validity of root password by performing so
we can not run the whole script as a root as after installation script is going to run some test as a normal user.
Using HSL solvers in Omg-tools
Firstly I installed OMG-tools using
pip, which also automatically installs Casadi and Ipopt. I then followed the Casadi tutorial to build HSL from source, where I can confirm that the package got installed in
/usr/local/lib, but when running OMG-tools' example, I always get
Invalid_Optionfor the selected solver. I added both the link and the environmental variable mentioned in the tutorial.
Are there any additional steps needed to set up HSL with Ipopt on my system, that I need to follow?
My system is running Ubuntu 16.04.

How to fetch ISP internet connection type using python?
My program has a requirement to dynamically adjust some parameters based on the internet connection type provided by the ISP.
For instance if the connection type is DHCP, my program will behave slightly differently and if it is PPPoE, it will behave otherwise.
But is there a way to fetch these details using Python?
A quick google search brings up ways to fetch details like public IP, hostname, etc. But no mention of connection type anywhere.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)
PowerDNS Master Slave Configuration
I deployed 4 powerDNS instances. 2 in NJ (nj-ns1 and nj-ns2) and 2 others in LA (la-ns1 and la-ns2).
Configured pdns in pdns.conf as, nj-ns1 as master. nj-ns2 la-ns1 and la-ns2 as Slaves.
Each of the NS also run DHCP. The 2 NS in NJ only manage NJ host and 2 NS in LA only mange LA hosts. I configured DHCP to update DNS with the leases.
My question is, If I create a dns zone (called la.test) with la-ns1 as master ns, would dhcp in LA be able to add A records to it? even though it is not a "powerDNS master"? I am basically confused about the difference between setting Master in pdns.conf vs. on the zone itself.
Issue setting up Open vSwitch on GCE (DHCP client not working)
I am trying to simulate an on-premises solution on GCP. I am not able to bridge with the GCE NIC and get DHCP working on that.
I have isolated the issue and also successfully tests the similar thing on a sandboxed Vagrant (VirtualBox) setup.
Both approaches are scripted and available on the following repos: https://github.com/htssouza/ovs-gcp-issue
How can I connect BBB to the Internet without DHCP network?
In the network which I am connected, we don't have DHCP. I followed the following steps to connect the internet but they did not work out.
ifconfig eth0 192.168.4.150 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.4.255 route add –net 192.168.4.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.4.1
I tried all these steps like 2 weeks ago. Also I tried this comment before but today When I used this command I lost Ssh connection, so for today I couldn't use this line.
nano /etc/network/interfaces # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.4.150 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.4.1 … # Ethernet/RNDIS gadget (g_ether) iface usb0 inet static address 192.168.7.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.7.0 gateway 192.168.7.1 nano /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 126.96.36.199 /etc/init.d/networking restart
How can I set an Ethernet connection to a static IP based on it's description?
I am writing a batch script that configures a newly added Ethernet connection. Problem is, The Ethernet connection sets it's name to "Ethernet #" where # is however many Ethernet connections have been established on this computer thus far. I have noticed however, that the "description" of my newly added Ethernet connection is fairly unique.
I have gone back and forth between parsing both netsh and wmic commands but have yet to find a way to single out an Ethernet connection based on it's description, and then configure it's IP to something static.
I feel like this is a fairly common problem but my google-fu is weak. How can I configure any Ethernet connections with a certain description to a static IP using a batch script?
Create static IP for Google Places API keys restrictions on AWS Elasticbeanstalk with autoscaling
I use Google Places API, and I need to put a restriction on my API key. I need to use an IP restriction because the calls are from a web server.
I am using AWS Elastic Beanstalk with an environment where I have a load balancer, autoscaling, and a VPC. So the IP address changes everytime a new EC2 server is created.
My question is : How do I put a static IP (Elastic ?) on my environment?
I have found many similar posts like this one (https://stackoverflow.com/a/49200693/3954420) or this one (https://medium.com/@obezuk/how-to-use-elastic-beanstalk-with-an-ip-whitelisted-api-69a6f8b5f844) where I have to create a NAT Gateway. But it requires at the end to type a target IP address, and unfortunately, Google API servers IPs are not static.
Any ideas on how I do that?
