laravel-echo - ReferenceError: module is not defined

Is it possible to use laravel-echo with plain JavaScript?

I DO NOT want to compile with $ npm run dev/prod.

I just want to use the same code from here:

https://laravel.com/docs/5.7/broadcasting

which is very similar to the one below:

window.Echo = new Echo({
    broadcaster: 'socket.io',
    host: window.location.hostname + ':6001'
});

window.Echo.channel('test-event')
    .listen('ExampleEvent', (e) => {
        console.log(e);
    }
);

I tried using:

https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/laravel-echo@1.4.1/dist/echo.min.js

from:

https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/laravel-echo@1.4.1/dist/

but I'm getting the following error on the browser console:

ReferenceError: module is not defined [Learn More] echo.js:937

Any idea on how to get this working?

Thanks!
