RSelenium - Unable to locate element using xpath

I'm trying to download an excel file from a subscription based service that I have access to. I am using RSelenium to access the page. I need to login and then navigate to the page where the excel sheet is provided. I am having trouble logging in. The code chunk I am using to open the webpage is:

cDrv <- wdman::chrome()
remDr <-RSelenium::remoteDriver(browserName = "chrome",
                                port = 4444L)
username_box <- remDr$findElement(using = c("xpath"), "//*[@id='username01']")

I can verify that the correct login page is opening after Javascript redirects the url to the login. After that, I try to locate the username textbox using xpath and the xpath location after inspecting the login field. The error I am receiving is below:

Selenium message:no such element: Unable to locate element: {"method":"xpath","selector":"//*[@id='username01']"}
  (Session info: chrome=90.0.4430.85)

I'm not too sure what is going on. I've tried:

remDr$findElement(using = c("xpath"), "//*[@id='username01']")
remDr$findElement(using = c("id"), "username01")
remDr$findElement(using = c("xpath"), "//*[contains(text(), 'username01')]")
