Count the number of subdirectories without the execute bit
How can I count the number of subdirectories that don't have the execute bit set?
This is my attempt but is there a better or more elegant way?
count=0; for d in */; do [[ -d $d && ! -x $d ]] && (( ++count )); done printf %s\\n "$count"
My main interest is in checking if the execute bit is not set for
all. That is not just for the current user.
Modifiying file permissions in linux
The file /etc/testfile is owned by the 'testA' user. Modify it to also be readable and writable by the 'testB' user. No other user should be able to read and write the file. You can use chmod, chown and chgrp with root privileges using sudo.
command line tool that can edit a process's permission?
In sysinternal's Process explorer, there is a feature where you can edit a process permission(Terminate, suspend, etc)in the process's security tab.
I used this feature for my "home-made" program.
But the thing is that,i don't want to repeat this step everytime i start up my "home-made" program,so i want to make a batch file for this.
is there a command line tool that can archive the same as the process explorer's edit process permission feature?
Set process permission from the command line
In process explorer, there is a feature thet allow you to edit a process's permisson(terminate, write, etc). My question is that, how can you do this from the command line?
I have tried so hard to search for a utility that can archive what i want, but i found nothing.
Someone help me? (If you need an example or detail, please look at this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/17485034 )

I don't see the output when I try to run my python programs on the command line terminal on windows 10
I'm sorry if this a stupid question but sometimes when I try to run from the cmd the code won't work, that is that it takes inputs but it won't show the output. The window will automatically close before the output shows.
For programs that don't include inputs. For something like
print("Hello world"). The window will just pop for a second and then close.
The code works fine in Pycharm and other IDEs. Any fixes?
is anyone know how to printing same line for every command?
Let me ask the same question with different ways hope can get a correct answer. Watch This Photos image

Solana Can't find devnet.json
I'm following this article as a practice. And stuck with
I realize that windows OS doesn't have
catso I tried
that result in
The syntax of the command is incorrect.
so I try again with
and this time, it leads to
The system cannot find the file specified.
It's kind of surprise me so I browse that directory(C:\Users\my-name\.config\solana) and found devnet.json is truly not there.
My questions are where could this file be? Or which step I might do wrong so the file was not generated? I check the result message of each step, things look fine...
How to test a Node app on a Windows system provisioned on the Cloud
I have a node app which I develop and test on a Mac.
I would like to test it on a Windows10 or Windows11 without having to buy a Windows PC, so I am wondering if there is an easy way to get a Windows system on the Cloud and which would be the easiest way.

How to keep all Python Tkinter Windows on top to detect hover
I'm making a clone of windows 98's start menu. I have the program almost finished I just need to get the buttons to open some programs. However for some reason the windows98 lookalike start menu keeps forcing me to start from the beginning in order to get through the menus. Each "tab" it's a docked borderless window because i was not sure how to make the program the shape it needed to be to appear over the operating system and over any open programs like how the old start menu should be. when i made it all one program it sat in the background when opened or it sat on top of the enter operating system making it really unrealistic. Start menu was only able to be placed on top as submenus when each window was created and destroyed using onenter and on exit when hovering over labels. so each tab is filled with labels that when the mouse hovers over it trades the image for the blue one and if it is a label that has a submenu like for example the programs part of the first start window it opens the next label (or in tkinter's world a new window)
as you can see in the video below the on hover events do not stay once the mouse leaves the window (I created a transparent window in the background so that when the user clicks out of the start menu the program is aware of it and can handle closing the entire program to look like the start menu is just being closed) the labels also do not turn blue when trying to backtrack to the previous window.
I am wishing for any kind soul here to assist me in solving these mysteries.
Here is a video showing the issue
I want to post the code for the program but the editor says that it is using too many characters to post it here.
I will send an example of how the new tabs are created and hope it's enough. I can send the script itself to someone who needs it.

Why is my RMI-java-app only working on Windows, and not on Linux?
I run a machine, with dual boot, my main OS that I use is Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 3.8.9. My second OS is Windows 10.
I am a Java developer and put together a app (server/client) for a RMI-comunication. The client makes a simple call to the server. The server-app is running in a Weblogic 14. To my surprise I just could not make the call to the server in my Linux OS. I get:
Timed out while attempting to establish connection to :t3://localhost:7001
So I set up everything the same in my Windows 10 OS, same version of Weblogic, same version of Java, same Version of Maven, same code for the app. To my surprise everything works fine!
I just can not figure out why it is not working on my Linux OS. The firewall is shut off, please see attached screen picture.
What do you think, is there more than one firewall in Linux Mint?
